Flood Control

The Trinity River was the foundation for life in Dallas because it all began along the banks of the Trinity River. As Dallas grew, controlling floods from the river became essential. A levee system to control the flood prone Trinity River was completed in 1931 and strengthened again in the 1950's. At the Dallas Water Utilities Department, stormwater flood control teams of experts spend each day working on flood control management, flood control maintenance, innovative planning, and new flood control and stormwater construction projects to provide the best protection for all areas of Dallas.
