McCommas Bluff Park

McCommas Bluff Park is a natural woodland area along the Trinity River where visitors can see the white chalk bluffs that form the banks of the river where the water has risen and fallen over time to expose this rock formation. This is a unique place in Dallas and a less traveled trail through a significant section of the Great Trinity Forest.

McCommas Bluffs Preserve

This was the location for the planned and platted Trinity City, one of the completed canal locks and the lock keeper's residence. The Saille Haynes, a river boat, made several trips between Dallas and Magnolia before it became obvious that the river was not friendly to paddle-wheel boats. Belle Starr and the Daltons camped at a spring that is located on property adjacent to the preserve.

L. B. Houston Nature Trail

L.B. Houston Greenbelt and the Elm Fork Greenbelt in the northwest area of Dallas near the Trinity River support over six miles of beginner and intermediate hiking and off-road biking trail. There are two sections of trails and one is adjacent to California Crossing which is located in the Trinity River Corridor Project and the other is east of Wildwood Road.
